Chase is an exorcist without a lot of money to his name. It might have something to do with him taking on cases for nominal fees, or maybe because he occasionally stops in motels and pays for sex. Whatever the cause may be for his downtrodden luck; he moves from place to place, snagging up odd supernatural related jobs.
In his most recent interlude, a family is concerned that a beautiful European woman has put some sort of hex on their ailing relative. This wouldn’t be so much of a problem, were the old man not sitting on a fortune. Desperate to keep their hands on the money, they offer to pay Chase to look into the situation.
At first he’s not inclined to accept, being as this does not seem like subject matter for an exorcist, but after having a dream including crying children in a spooky mansion, he opts to look into it. Dreams about crying children are never good omens in his line of work.
True to form, when he arrives in town, the old man is dead and a raven-haired woman and her enchanting son have taken over the inheritance. The icing on the cake is they are living in a creepy house that just happens to be the one Chase saw in his dream.
It becomes a race against time to find out the true nature of the woman and her son, as children start to vanish from the small town and Chase hears shrieks in the night. The young exorcist fights to keep his mind on the situation at hand, but the male youth of the house is gorgeous and enticing. Is he also a prisoner of this strange woman’s magic and needs to be set free, or is he a fiend intent on seducing and killing the exorcist that’s getting in the way?
Will Chase find love in this difficult case or will the exorcist become a ghost?

I am not sure exactly how to rate this one. I really liked the premise, and the plot lives up to it. Characters were likable if a bit unfinished. The problem I had is that the plot moves too fast for my liking. Everything happens BOOM BOOM BOOM. Chase meets Lysander, next time they see each other they have a heavy petting session, then the next time they are in love, then they are riding off into the sunset. Chase is investigating Lysander's mother (though I'm still confused on how she actually had a kid considering what she is) and solves the case in what were told is a month but feels like 3 days, maybe four. There's really no time for Chase it actually angst over if he should trust Lysander or not, though the author tries. I did enjoy the story over all. The plot is interesting, the supernatural angle felt different and fresh than what I'm used to. I kind of love that even though there was a "villain", you at least kind of feel for her, even though she did horrible things. Although it is kind of hard to forgive Lysander his part in her evil, at least for me, I struggled. All in all though, I did enjoy it for the most part, and would recommend it as it's a quick and easy read
ThreeandHalfStars
For me this book was hard to get into at first because there was so much mystery. Too much mystery. But once the story started getting going and we started finding out a bit about both characters and we could find some connection with the men.
The writing was actually pretty good. The biggest problem I had was that there was a lot of changes from past to present tenses, which killed the flow of the story for me.
I also had issues with the complete and utter insta-love between the characters. I mean first real conversation and they were in love. I understand that the paranormal aspect made them feel more quicker than normal, but it was just too fast for me.
Then the whole story is wrapped around the banshee, who ends up being a pretty easy case to settle so it was a quick wrap up that made me frown. I think if it were a longer book with more cases, or a more difficult closer, or expanded scenes maybe.. It was just missing... something for me.
I would read another piece of work from this author as the author seemed to have a lot of promise.

3.5 Star
Need a quick M/M PNR read with an interesting plot? Then you've found it.
The story starts a little in the middle then jumps back to the beginning and moves at a fast pace; which I enjoyed. Chase has been hired by a family to find out if dear Uncle Henry has been duped by a pretty face and her son. Chase isn't a regular investigator he's an exorcist with a little something extra and he quickly learns he is dealing with something that might be stronger than he is both in the woman and her son, Lysander.
Like a said the story moves quickly so there is a lot of intsa in it but what I enjoyed the most was that there were no vampires, werewolves, fae, or shifters. Don't get me wrong I do enjoy those in my PNR but it was nice to get some different supernaturals for a change. I have never read a story with a banshee as part of the main story line or a fantoma (half human, half-spirit).
I thought the climax of the story was fantastic. When Chase goes to battle the banshee, save Lysander, and rescue the children; my fingers were sore from clutching my kindle.
But I have to say I was left with one question; why take the children? I don't know I may missed that while drooling over the smexy scenes. Oh and I hope there is going to be follow up to this story, you know the adventures of Chase and Lysander-)
Chase is an exorcist, charged with investigating a woman and her son who are the inexplicable heirs of a wealthy man's fortune. Chase is stunned to realize the son, Lysander, is the object of his recent dreams.
While investigating from afar, Chase is approached by Lysander, and their attraction is immediate. Chase soon discovers Lysander's mother is a supernatural being, and Lysander is half-spirit/half-human. This makes it hard for Chase and Lysander to have a connection, on account of Chase knowing the darkness within Lysander is very dangerous.
The objective, to release Lysander's mother's spirit, is also dangerous, but Lysander's willing to help if it will let his mother rest in peace.
This novella had some interesting ideas, but I felt as if everything was too rushed, with too much telling. Chase and Lysander meet. Then, they're in love. Chase tells us everything, and the beginning few pages absolutely destroyed any fear I might have developed that the resolution would not be HEA. I never really got the full sense of Lysander and what his abilities might be. Most of the time he seemed like a kicked puppy, but then, he'd be extremely forceful with Chase. Lysander seemed as unpredictable as his mother, and equally as dangerous. I wished Chase had more spark. He's too stolid a narrator, for me. Also, serious problems with this particular punctuation mark ";". It was everywhere it should not have been.
There's a few sexy interludes, but I kinda struggled with the emotional development (read Instalove).
